ASPAC Boys tops team standings, defeats Team OGs

The ASPAC Boys earned their second straight victory in the ongoing APCRAA Alumni Basketball Tournament (AABT) 2016 season by beating Team OGs, 94-87 on Saturday, August 20 at the APC Gymnasium.

Carlo Aboboto continues to lead the ASPAC Boys as he scored a career high 35 points plus 13 rebounds and 3 assists. Joseph Gamboa also tallied a double-double game, with 20 points, 18 rebounds plus 5 assists.

JP Redelick took the over scoring chores for Team OG’s, leading his team with 28 points, plus 5 assists. Four other OG’s scored in double digits.

The game was very physical from tipoff as both teams got into the penalty situation early in all quarters. Emotions also run high as both team captains were called for warnings for excessive complaining. One of them was eventually called for a technical foul. Both teams exchanged leads 7 times and tied the game on 7 occations.

Armand Nayve of the ASPAC Boys got injured after he was accidentally elbowed in the face by his teammate Carlo Aboboto on a rebound play at the 8:14 mark of the 3rd quarter, causing the game to stop for about 10 minutes. Nayve was rushed to the Makati Medical Center to have his wound stitched up. Incidentally, Nayve is playing his first game after replacing Rover James Magbitang in the ASPAC Boys lineup.

The ASPAC Boys was able to pull away in the third quarter after Aboboto’s scoring run, and with the help of turnovers and fouls committed by team OG’s late in the fourth quater.

Both teams will see action on August 27, as team OG’s will face off with Cav Guards, while ASPAC Boys will square off against Team Bumblebees aftewards.
