Team Alpha bounced back from last week’s defeat with a resounding victory against Mille, 95-82 at the continuation of the APCRAA Basketball Tournament (ABT) Season 5 Men’s Division elimination round on Saturday, July 13 at the Asia Pacific College Gymnasium.
Jap Puente exploded with 30 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists, leading the charge for Alpha. Alex Tagle finished with 18 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists.
Dave Yokoi, Mille’s newest acquisition, dropped 42 points, 3 points shy of the all-time scoring record set by Puente last season. Yokoi also contributed 7 rebounds and 7 steals. Chris Javier came in second with 13 points and 6 rebounds.
Alpha took control of the game’s pace, setting a commanding 12-point lead by the end of the first quarter, 21-9. Mille managed to reduce the lead to 3 points, 40-37 by halftime, thanks to the timely three point shots by Jarret Adam and Javier. By the second half, attrition set in for Mille since they only had 8 players available. Alpha led by as much as 24 points in the third quarter, then pulled away with the victory.
Mille will be back in action on July 20 as they face Cookies and Team at 6:30pm, while Alpha will be up against Cookies and Team on August 3.
