Predators trample BNS in OT
Team Predators notched their second victory in the ongoing APCRAA Basketball Tournament (ABT) women’s division elimination round after defeating BNS in overtime, 40-36, on Saturday, August 3 at the Asia Pacific College Gymnasium.
This is the first overtime game played between two APC alumni women’s division teams in the league’s history.
Jen Francisco of Predators led all scorers, finishing with 16 points, 23 rebounds and 5 steals. Jiezl-Ann Turo had 9 points, 16 rebounds and 5 steals.
BNS’ Marion Cambay had a season high of 15 points plus 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Casey Carrillo and Amleth Dulay had 17 and 11 rebounds respectively.
The game was a see-saw battle with both teams exchanging leads during the first three quarters. The Predators then held on to a 6-point lead, only to be erased in the last two minutes by BNS. Cambay scored a potential game-winning basket, but Casey Bustamante followed it up with a fastbreak layup. The game went into overtime at 29-all.
A crucial three-point play by Veronica Chua secured the Predators’ victory to lead by four points, with only 25 seconds remaining in overtime.
