Undermanned Mille escapes Richmond Oilers

An undermanned Mille squad notched their first victory in the ongoing APCRAA Basketball Tournament (ABT) Season 5 men’s division eliminations after defeating Richmond Oilers, 88-84 on Saturday, August 10 at the Asia Pacific College gymnasium.

With only 5 players available before tipoff, Mille held their own and within Oilers’ distance. Mille’s RC David was called with a second technical foul with 2:29 left in the 2nd quarter, forcing him to sit out the game and Mille to play with only four players. Luckily, Jeff Mariano arrived seconds after the technical foul was called, and entered the game less than a minute before the halftime buzzer.

A scoring run led by David Yokoi catapulted Mille to a commanding 70-59 at the end of the third quarter. Mille then hold off any chances for an Oilers comeback, as missed shots and crucial turnovers hounded the opposition.

Yokoi finished with 52 points, breaking the all-time record for most points in game set by Jap Puente at 45 points on July 7, 2018. Team captain Ryan Acdal scored 13 points, with 8 rebounds and 9 assists.

Richmond Oilers’ Lorenz Ysulan and Lavesh Chandnani scored 20 points each. Abe Tanco had 17 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists.
