Stage One OGs keeps its spotless record intact as they completed a come-from-behind win against Elite Hoopers, 82-79, at the continuation of the APCRAA Basketball Tournament Season 8 elimination round on Saturday, July 6 at the APC Gymnasium.
Before the game began, a simple ceremony was held to acknowledge JP Redelick’s inclusion in the 1000 points club, the second player in the alumni basketball tournament history to do so. He scored his 1000th point during their game against Sibak at the on June 15, 2024 at the 4:44 mark of the 2nd quarter.
Down with as much as 11 points in the 3rd quarter, Stage One OGs crippled in to the Hoopers lead, tying the game at 75-all with less than 2 minutes remaining the game. The lead exchanged hands twice going in to the last minute of the game. It was a costly turnover from Mark Binoya and a fastbreak layup from Genesis Reyes gave the OGs the lead with 15 seconds left. The Hoopers tried to tie the game again with a three point shot by Charles Digo but missed, an offensive putback by Marvin Vicedo got blocked by Ralph Artigas, sealing the win for the OGs.
Reyes scored 28 points with 10 rebounds and 4 assists, while Redelick contributed 23 points with 5 out of 12 shots made in the three point line.
Hoopers’ perennial scorer Peter Abarracoso had near triple-double output of 19 points, 12 rebounds and 9 assists while Digo contributed 15 points.
The Stage One OGs, currently with a 3-0 win-loss record, will face their nemesis Richmond Oilers on July 13 while the Elite Hoopers, with a 1-1 record, will be back on July 20 up against Sibak.
