ABT Season 9 orientation held

The APCRAA Basketball Tournament (ABT) Season 9 is set to open on Saturday, May 24 at the APC Gymnasium.

The tournament committee, headed by Commissioner Dann Garcia, conducted an orientation on May 17 at the APC Boardroom to discuss the house rules and tournament format. Team representatives from four D-League division and five Elite division teams attended the meeting.

Also in attendance is Mr. Dennis Tolic, representing the AKO Referees Association (AKO), the current referees pool of the alumni tournament. He oriented all the attendees on the new FIBA rules that were implemented starting October 2024.

The tournament format for both divisions were discussed and finalized as well as the implementation of the IRS system and coaches’ challenge rule were clarified.

Each division will have a single round robin elimination round. At the end of the eliminations, the top four teams will advance to the best-of-three semifinals. For the d-league division, an additional play-in game between the #4 and #5 seeded team will be played to determine who will have the last seat going to the semifinals. The winner of each semifinals series will then meet in the best-of-three finals.

Before the meeting ended, a draw was held to determine who will play on Opening Day. Mischiefs and Kings will be the first game of the d-league division at 2:00pm followed by the elite division matchup between Knights and Sibak at 3:30pm.
