Oilers survive Stage One OGs run

Richmond Oilers survived an intense game against their nemesis Stage One OGs, escaping with a 78-76 victory in the ongoing APCRAA Basketball Tournament Season 8 elimination round last Saturday, July 13 at the APC Gymnasium.

The Oilers improved their win-loss record to 2-1, while the OGs got their first defeat this season but still managed to hold on at the top of Group B with a 3-1 record.

Before the game started, the league acknowledged Pepe Canseco’s career milestone after becoming the 14th player in league history to score at least 500 career points. Canseco, the 2015 2nd conference most valuable player, scored his 500th point on July 6, during their game against Elite Hoopers at the 3:54 mark of the 3rd quarter.

Justine Abequibel led the charge for the Oilers with 20 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. JP Masa contributed 16 points with 11 rebounds for a double-double output.

For the Stage One OGs, JP Redelick had 24 points and 5 assists, while Sean Montemayor added 12 points and 5 rebounds for the team.

The Oilers will be back in action on July 20, facing Team Kaizen while Stage One OGs will play their final elimination round game also with Team Kaizen on August 3.
