Bumblebees withstand ASPAC Boys for second straight win

Team Bumblebees won their second straight victory against the ASPAC Boys in a tightly-contested game, 85-79 at the continuation of the APCRAA Alumni Basketball Tournament (AABT) 2016 season elimination round on Saturday, August 27 at the APC Gymnasium.

Norman Ringor led the Bumblebees with a second double-double this season, with 27 points, 20 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Joemark Belardo also helped the team’s scoring chores, finishing with 16 points with 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Brix Estabillo had a good scoring night with 16 points, with 8 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists.

Mark Pagaduan and Joseph Gamboa were the scoring leaders for the ASPAC Boys, finishing with 23 and 20 points respectively. VG Agdamag scored 14 points, with 6 assists and 2 steals.

While missing the services of Carlo Aboboto and Lavesh Chadnani, the ASPAC Boys were able to secure the lead in the beginning of the first quarter. The Bumblebees caught up in the second period and was able to gain the lead thanks to the inside scoring of Ringor and the timely three point shots by Arie Altre.

ASPAC was able to keep the gap close but a scoring run in the 7 minute mark of the 3rd quarter led by Brix Estabillo, CJ Pring and Joemark Belardo propelled the Bumblebees’ lead to 10 points. The ASPAC Boys made their own scoring run with the help of Art Plan, Joseph Gamboa and Mark Pagaduan, to decrease the Bumblebee lead by 1 point before the start of the fourth quarter.

Both teams were exchanging leads until the 4 minute mark of the fourth quater until the Bumblebees made a 9-0 run up to the two minute warning. The win was sealed with free throw attempts of Ringor and Altre.

Both teams will be back in action on September 3; the Bumblebees will face the Cav Guards at 6:30pm and the ASPAC Boys will meet Team Alpha at 8pm.
