Bumblebees sting Cavs

Team Bumblebees won their first game against Team Cavs in the APCRAA Basketball Tournament (ABT) 2017 season Men’s Division elimination round opener, 78-73, on Saturday, July 8 at the APC Gymnasium

The defending champions keep their winning streak alive since last year’s tournament, when they went undefeated up to the championship round.

Team captain Brix Estabillo led the Bumblebees charge with 24 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Reigning MVP Norman Ringor scored 17 points and grabbed 7 boards.

For the Cavs, Christian Tragico led all scorers with 24 points plus 4 rebounds. New recruit John Carlo Hermo is not far behind with 23 points and 6 rebounds, plus 4 assists and 2 steals.

The Cavs took advantage of an early run, leading by as much as 11 points in the second quarter. The lead however was erased with a Bumblebees 11-0 run before getting ahead with 3 points going into halftime.

The Bumblebees continued their scoring outburst and established a double-digit lead before the end of the third quarter. The Cavs however had their own run, tied the game 59-all with 8:30 left in the final period, and from there, they exchanged leads.

The Bumblebees were leading with one point, 70-69, then a 6-point outburst from Estabillo after the two-minute warning pushed the Bumblebees further ahead, sealing their first victory for this season.
