ASPAC zaps Avengers

Team ASPAC tallied their first victory in the APCRAA Basketball Tournament (ABT) 2017 season Men’s Division elimination round by defeating Team Avengers, 98-70, on Saturday, July 22 at the APC Gymnasium.

Carlo Aboboto of Team ASPAC made the second triple-double in ABT history, scoring 15 points, grabbing 17 boards and dishing 10 assists. Mark Pagaduan led all scorers in the game with 29 points, plus 10 rebounds.

Edwin Gratil tops all scorers in the Avengers side with 25 points, 13 rebounds and 2 assists. Ron Perez and Archie Gratil also had a decent scoring output, with 14 and 10 points respectively.

The game is tight in the first half and the lead changed hands 5 times. Team ASPAC was able to increase their lead to 7 points. Team Avengers player Miguel Amurao suffered a knee injury when he landed awkwardly in rebound play at the 1:43 mark of the second quarter.

The ASPAC lead increased to 14 points by halftime. A 9-2 Avengers run from the start of the 3rd quarter decreased the ASPAC lead to 5 points. However, the Avengers’ streak was doused by an offensive run care of Lavesh Chadnani and Mark Pagaduan. The lead ballooned to 24 points before the end of the 3rd quarter. The game became wide open in the final period as Team ASPAC increased their lead up to 30 points before the final buzzer.

Both teams will be back in action on July 29, when Team Avengers meets Team Cavs at 5pm, while Team ASPAC faces Team OGs at 6:30pm.
