Prayco buzzer-beater saves day for Titans

A buzzer-beating followup from Rey Prayco gave Team Titans their second victory in the 2018 season of the APCRAA Basketball Tournament (ABT) elimination round, sending Team Alpha to their third straight loss, 99-98 on Saturday, July 21, at the Asia Pacific College Gymnasium.

Titans rookie Jerl Ferrer had his breakout game with 30 points, 20 rebounds and 4 assists. Ronnie Corsino scored his third consecutive double-double performance with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Team captain Mervin Quilang had his best game this season with 15 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists.

Alpha’s Jap Puente did a scoring spree again, finishing with 33 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists. New recruit Jaycee Magsalos had a double-double game with 23 points and 10 rebounds.

Team Alpha got the headstart in the first half thanks to the scoring barrage from Jeru Castanares, and led by as much as 11 points. Titans was able to catch up and tied the game before halftime. By the third quarter, Team Titans took control of the game; at the beginning of the fourth quarter, Alpha regained the lead.
The game became a see-saw battle as both teams took control of the league up to the last minute of the game. Alpha secured a one-point lead, 98-97 with 12 seconds remaining. After a Titans timeout, Jerl Ferrer drove through the basket for a layup but missed, then secured the rebound and missed again. Rey Prayco secured the ball and made a quick followup to snatch the game away from Alpha.

Both teams will return on August 4 as team Titans faces Team 2K15 at 5:00pm followed by Team Alpha vs Team OGs at 6:30pm.
