OGs make it two in a row, survive Legacy comeback
Team OGs notched their second consecutive win against Team Legacy, 65-61, at the continuation of the 2015 APCRAA Alumni Basketball Tournament (AABT) 2nd Conference elimination round on Saturday, October 17 at the APC Gymnasium.
The OGs is now tied with the Engineering All-Stars at fourth place with a 2-2 win-loss record in the team standings while Team Legacy, which has yet to take home their first win in the tournament, slid to the bottom of the standings with a 0-3 card.
Four of the OGs contributed to the team score, led by Paolo Diaz with 18 points. JP Redelick, despite playing for only the first half of the game, scored 14 points. Mhar Paraiso also had his best game yet with a near triple-double performance: 14 points, 20 rebounds, and 9 assists. New OGs recruit Ryan Vincent Go, who replaced John Esguerra in their lineup due to an ACL injury, did good in his debut game with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
For Team Legacy, Kevin Gener also had his breakthrough game, scoring 16 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Daniel Trinidad and Romy Abdon also provided the needed scoring power for Legacy, scoring 16 and 10 points, respectively.
In the first quarter, the OGs edged Legacy in terms of field-goal percentage, hitting 9 out of their 20 attempts, while Legacy suffered by hitting only 3 of their 19 markers. The OGs continued to dominate the game, with their lead reaching up to 25 points in the second quarter.
A late fourth-quarter scoring run gave Legacy a chance to salvage the game, after Romy Abdon stole the ball, thus decreasing the OGs’ lead by three points with 20 seconds remaining.
In the ensuing play, Paolo Diaz was fouled and missed both free throws. Legacy was not able to capitalize in the next possesion when the ball was turned over due to a bad pass. The OGs sealed their victory with a shot made by Mhar Paraiso.
The next game for the OGs will be on October 24 against the ASPAC Boys while Legacy will face Burn-out on the same day.
