Dave Yokoi of Mille and Jenny Francisco of Predators currently lead the MVP race for the APCRAA Basketball Tournament (ABT) men’s and women’s divisions, respectively.
Yokoi, who is also the top candidate for Rookie of the Year, averages 42 points, 7.3 rebounds 7 steals per game so far. He tops the men’s division MVP race with 57.67 statistical points (SP). Joseph Gamboa of RamBall comes in second with 51.5 SPs while Mark Rivera of Knights sits in third place with 50.33 SPs.
In the women’s division, Francisco has accumulated 35 SPs with averages of 11.5 points and 18.8 rebounds per game. Her teammate, Jiezl-Ann Turo who averages 9 points, 11.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game, is in second place with 27 SPs followed by Chantal Saldivar of Hydra with 23 SPs.
Statistical points are computed as follows:
-1 SP for every point scored, rebound, assist, steal and shot blocked.
-Deduction of 1 SP for every turnover, 5 SP for every technical or flagrant foul without ejection, and 15 SP for any technical or flagrant foul that results in an ejection.
-Additional 10 SP will be added for every game won wherein the player saw action
-Additional 15 SP will be added for every playoff game won wherein the player saw action
-Total SPs will then be divided for the total number of games the player saw action
The Most Valuable Player (MVP) and the Rookie of the Year will be determined with the following criteria:
-60% Average statistical points
-40% ABT Committee votes
In addition, the following individual citations will be awarded:
*Mythical 5 (men’s and women’s division)
*All-Defensive Team (men’s division)
*Defensive player of the year (men’s and women’s division)
*Most improved player (men’s and women’s division)
The ABT Annual Awards will be scheduled after the conclusion of the men’s division quarterfinals.
