Team Starks draws first blood in the five game APCRAA Basketball Tournament Women’s Division five-game series as they defeated defending champions Predators, 37-32 on Saturday, June 4 at the APC Gymnasium.
Viel Famillaran had a good game overall for the Starks, scoring 9 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Sophie Bacordo and Chanty Saldivar contributed 6 points each.
Jiezl-Ann Turo had a double-double performance for Predators, scoring 14 points, with two three point baskets and grabbed 11 rebounds. Michelle Alison also scored 14 points with 13 rebounds and 4 steals.
The game was neck on neck with both teams only leading by as much as 6 points. With the game tied under the last three minutes of the fourth quarter, CJ Bendulo scored a three point bucket, pushing the Starks ahead, enough to secure their team’s first win.
Game 2 of the women’s division five game series will be on June 25.
