All systems go for ABT Season Six

After a two year absence due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the APCRAA Basketball Tournament (ABT) Season Six is set to open on Saturday, June 4 at the APC Gymnasium.

The tournament committee, headed by Commissioner Dann Garcia, conducted an orientation on May 28 to discuss the house rules and tournament format. Team representatives from ten men’s division teams and two women’s division teams attended the meeting.

New eligibility rules were also approved by the team captains, allowing former APC students who have stayed in APC for at least three consecutive academic terms or one whole Senior High School academic year, regardless if the player have enrolled or graduated to a different school, to play in the alumni tournament.

The ten men’s division teams will be divided into two groups via draw lots. The groups will have a single round-robin eliminations. A crossover play-in tournament will be played for the two lowest seed teams in each bracket. Four teams will advance in the crossover quarterfinals, with the top team earning the twice-to-beat advantage. Winning teams will advance in the best-of-three semifinals. The winner of each series will then meet in the best-of-three finals.

For the women’s division, a five-game series will be played between the two participating teams, similar on what has done in the previous seasons. The team with the most number of wins will become the champion.

Before the meeting ended, a draw was held to determine who will play on Opening Day. Returning team 2k18 will face off with the previous season’s runners-up, Knights at 1:00pm, followed by the first game of the women’s division series between Starks and Predators at 2:30pm. Team Mustangs and defending champions, Team Bumblebees will square off at 4:00pm and new team Sibak will meet Team Titans at 5:30pm.
