Starks goes 2-0, defeat Predators

Team Starks scored their second victory in the APCRAA Basketball Tournament Season Six women’s division series against Team Predators, 30-29, on Saturday, June 25 at the APC Gymnasium.

The win also gives Starks one step closer to become this season’s women’s division champions.

CJ Bendulo had the best output from the Starks squad with 8 points, 2 out of 2 from the three point arc, with 10 rebounds and 5 steals. Chanty Saldivar contributed 10 points and 5 rebounds for the Starks.

For the Predators, Jiezl-Ann Turo scored 15 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Michelle Alison had a double-double output with 12 points and 12 rebounds with 7 steals.

The Predators had a good start in the first half, leading by as much as 10 points. However by the 3rd quarter, the Starks fired an 8-0 run thanks to the two consecutive three point shots by Bendulo and a layup by Saldivar to even the score at 21-all at the opening of the fourth quarter.

The Starks were able to secure a five-point lead midway in the fourth quarter but was reduced to a one point lead with less than a minute into the game. The Predators had several chances to tie the ball game but were unable to capitalize it after missing four consecutive free throw shots.

Game Three of the women’s division series will be played on July 16.
