Gamboa, Alison tops MVP race

Jopet Gamboa of Alpha and Michelle Alison of Predators currently lead the MVP race for the APCRAA Basketball Tournament (ABT) men’s and women’s divisions, respectively.

Gamboa, Season 2’s Rookie of the Year averages 19.3 points, 14.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game at the end of the elimination round. He tops the men’s division MVP race with 284 statistical points (SP). 2k18’s Guess dela Cuesta comes in second with 283 SPs while Carlo Aboboto of Team Knights is in third place with 279 SPs.

For the women’s division, Alison, who also was Season 5’s Most Improved Player averages 14 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 4.3 steals per game garnered 163 statistical points as of Game 3 of their five game women’s division series against Team Starks. Jiezl-Ann Turo is in second place with 126 SPs while Hanna Cruz is in third with 70 SPs.

Statistical points are computed as follows:
* 1 SP for every point scored, rebound, assist, steal and shot blocked.
* Deduction of 1 SP for every turnover, 5 SP for every technical or flagrant foul without ejection, and 15 SP for any technical or flagrant foul that results in an ejection.
* Additional 10 SP will be added for every game won wherein the player saw action
* Additional 15 SP will be added for every playoff game won wherein the player saw action

For the first time in league history, players votes will be a factor in selecting the individual awards. The new criteria will be as follows:

*40% Statistical points
*30% Players’ votes
*30% ABT Committee votes

In addition, the following individual citations will be awarded:
*Mythical 5 (men’s and women’s division)
*All-Defensive Team (men’s division)
*Defensive player of the year (men’s and women’s division)
*Most improved player (men’s and women’s division)

The ABT Annual Awards will be scheduled at the conclusion of the men’s division quarterfinals.
