Gummy Bears escape Oilers run to force winner-take-all Game 3

The Gummy Bears lived to see another day in the APCRAA Basketball Tournament Season 7 Finals and stretched the championship series to the limit with a 87-82 victory over the Richmond Oilers on Saturday, August 12 at the APC Gymnasium.

The third and final game of the championship series will be played on Saturday, August 19 at 3:00pm.

Leading by as much as 13 point in the third quarter, the Oilers got the game tied up at 75-all with about 5 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. The Gummies however were able to push back, holding on to the lead until the final buzzer.

Norman Ringor was the Gummy Bears’ top scorer with 25 points plus 12 rebounds, 1 assists and 2 steals. Brix Estabillo scored 24 points, with 3 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 steals. Lester de Luna got 16 points and is only one point away for being the 13th member of the 500 points club.

For the Oilers, JP Bayog scored 22 points with 1 rebound and 6 assists. Justine Abequibel had 21 points, 4 rebounds and 7 assists.

Meanwhile, the APCRAA Basketball Tournament committee handed Richmond Oilers player Lavesh Chandnani a P1,000 fine for unsportsmanlike behavior following his actions at the end of Game 2. Tournament Commissioner Dann Garcia reminded all players that the committee will have a “zero tolerance” policy on trashtalking, or any form of unsportsmanlike behavior, following multiple infractions that happened between players during the playoff round. Violators will be sanctioned accordingly as stated in the tournament rules.
