Macaraeg powers Oilers past OGs to force Game 3

The Richmond Oilers defeated Team OGs, 86-72, in Game 2 of their APCRAA Basketball Tournament best-of-three semifinals series, on Saturday, July 22 at the APC Gymnasium.

The Oilers forged a do-or-die showdown on July 29, with the winner facing the Gummy Bears in the best-of-three championship round.

A close game during the opening quarter, the Oilers pulled ahead by the 2nd quarter, leading by as much as 18 points by halftime. Both team captains got a heated exchange with less than 3 minutes remaining in the half resulting to technical fouls called on both sides.

Renzo Macaraeg was the Oilers’ go-to guy, finishing with a double-double stat line of 24 points, 17 rebounds with 3 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks. Jerl Ferrer contributed 13 points and 8 boards while Kyle Trinidad scored 12 points.

For the OGs, JP Redelick led the charge with 17 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists while playing for the entire game’s 40 minutes. Jon Timbre added 16 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists for the OGs while Pepe Canseco had a double-double output of 12 points and 11 rebounds.
