APCRAA traces its roots to the APC Alumni Association, an inter-school organization formed in the mid-2000’s. It was initially tasked to communicate with the school’s graduates. It was then directly supervised by the school through the Career and Placement Office (CPO) and it operated similarly with student organizations.
As the alumni population grew, the need to form a separate entity from APC was needed. Thus, the APC Rams Alumni Association was incorporated in the Securities and Exchange Commission on January 9, 2009 as a non-stock, non-profit organization. Manuel Paolo Laurena, one of the officers of its predecessor organization was appointed as its first president.
On March 7, 2010, Jacob Catayoc became its second president. To attract the alumni community in returning to APC, APCRAA set up separate alumni homecomings per school from 2011 to 2012. The first alumni basketball tournament was also established in 2011. APCRAA also got involved in outreach programs spearheaded by APC. The biggest project APCRAA has done was to organize its Grand Alumni Homecoming on March 16, 2013, held at the SM Megamall Megatrade Hall.
A new set of officers were elected on July 7, 2013, with Michael Joseph Bueza elected as the organization’s third president. Under his watch, APCRAA became more active in reaching out to the school’s alumni community by organizing activities suiting to their interests.
The APCRAA Basketball Tournament, first organized in 2011, was revived in 2015. Seminars were also conducted and the organization assisted some alumni and APC community members who are in need.
On June 4, 2016, Dianne Joy Mercado was elected as the organization’s fourth president during the organization’s annual general assembly. During her term, APCRAA organized its second grand alumni homecoming held at the SMX Convention Center on November 20, 2016.
She stepped down on July 15, 2017 and appointed Dann Wenzley Garcia, then the Vice President for Alumni Development, to be her successor.
Under his leadership, APCRAA became more active on social media by adding up an Instagram and YouTube accounts. Existing accounts in Facebook and Twitter are also being updated regularly. APCRAA also opened up its official alumni merchandise platform.
On May 25, 2019, Mr. Garcia was formally elected as the alumni association president together with a new batch of officers. The new officers were inducted during the annual general assembly on June 29, 2019.
Activities planned for 2020 were made but were cut short due to the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic. To make up with the restrictions regarding social events, APCRAA launched its monthly podcast entitled “APCRAAmbulan!”. Five episodes featuring alumni from various batches were aired through APCRAA’s Facebook and YouTube accounts.
The APCRAA Board were able to hold its first face-to-face meeting during the pandemic on July 17, 2021.
On May 28, 2022, Mr. Garcia was re-elected as the alumni president for the second time, making him the longest-serving president in the association’s history. Most of the officers elected in 2019 were re-elected to their respective positions.
The alumni association’s first face-to-face event since 2019, the opening ceremonies of its annual alumni basketball tournament was held on June 4, 2022. The alumni bazaar was revived and was held on October 1, 2022 at the APC Humabon parking area.
